J-Hope Gets Dream Collab With J. Cole for ‘On The Street’

The K-Pop idol teams up with his hero, rapper J. Cole.

As he prepares for his mandatory military service, J-Hope, a member of the K-Pop group BTS, shared a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the ‘On The Street‘ music video, where he teams up with his hero, rapper J. Cole.

The video begins with the K-pop idol, whose real name is Jung Ho-seok, saying ‘Being able to meet J. Cole, is nerve-wracking,’ before writing a letter to the rapper in his New York hotel room the morning before their shoot. While writing the note, J-hope wonders if BTS fans feel the same when they write him letters. You can check out the video below:

Later, he meets J. Cole on the set of ‘On the Street,’ which features a view of the Manhattan Bridge. The two exchange hugs as they catch up after meeting at Lollapalooza 2022.

J-hope also talks about his ability to work with J. Cole in the behind-the-scenes video. ‘I listened to J. Cole’s music a ton when I was young,’ he revealed while watching J. Cole perform via a monitor. ‘I can’t believe I’m working with him!’ he adds.

J. Cole revealed, via translator, that he had asked to contact J-hope directly himself. ‘It’s a blessing to be here with y’all,’ he says to J-Hope, who was obviously stoked to hear this from his ‘muse,’ as he called J. Cole earlier in the video.

J-Hope also mentions in the video that J. Cole was the first artist he listened to when he started listening to music, and being able to work with him after ten years as a fan, ‘feels like a dream.’

The video also follows J. Hope as he films scenes in various New York City locations, including the subway and the city’s streets. ‘A lot of preparation went into this and I don’t think the process was easy,’ he added. ‘But after everything, I’m so relieved. I think there’s that pride of “I did this and made it happen”.’

He went on to mention how the staff worked hard, giving them applause, before going on to say that On The Street might be ‘the first steps of his grand plans of ‘Hope On The Street.’

On the same day the behind-the-scenes video was dropped, Billboard also revealed on Twitter that On The Street debuted at number 60 on the Hot 100 for the week of 18 March 2023.
