James Gunn Says Superman: Legacy To Begin Pre-Production

Instagram commenters want Gunn to bring back Henry Cavill as the iconic superhero.

Yesterday, director James Gunn shared a photo on Instagram of the cover page of his script for the upcoming ‘Superman: Legacy‘ film, along with the caption:

I’m honored to be a part of the legacy. And what better day than #SupermanAnniversary Day to dive fully into early pre-production on #SupermanLegacy? Costumes, production design, and more now up and running.

While some of the 7500+ comments were positive, the majority of them called for the return of actor Henry Cavill, who played the iconic superhero in three films but was abruptly sacked by Gunn and Peter Safran when they took over as heads of DC Studios last year. Fans were taken by surprise as Cavill’s return to the role had been teased in Black Adam.

Other commenters stated that they’re simply not going to watch the film, that James Gunn is destroying the DC Universe, and so on. To be fair, the DC Universe has been awful for YEARS, and has only recently begun to get slightly better.

When asked if there will be a casting announcement, Gunn says that they are still auditioning for the role of Clark Kent/Superman, and no one has yet been cast.

Man of Steel

While we were definitely not happy with their decision to get rid of Cavill, James Gunn DOES have a solid track record of making great films that were (or could’ve been) otherwise shitty in the hand of other directors. We’re looking at YOU, Suicide Squad.

With all this said, we’re still hoping that the whole thing is a huge troll by Gunn, Cavill, and Warner Bros. But what do YOU think? Let us know in the comments below, on Facebook, or on Twitter.
