Kick-Ass 2 Movie Review

Kick-Ass is back and continues to live up to the name. Read our review.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chlöe Grace Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse return as Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist in Kick-Ass 2, the sequel to 2010 the hit film, Kick-Ass. This time around Kick-Ass (Johnson) joins forces with Justice Forever, a group of self-made masked crusaders inspired by Kick-Ass’ insane bravery, run by born-again ex-mob badass Colonel Stars and Stripes, played by Jim Carrey.

When the amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Mintz-Plasse) now known as The Motherfucker, who has assembled his own evil team and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his father, Frank D’Amico, it’s all kinds of bloody, face-bashing awesomeness that follows.

What we loved:
Hit-Girl. Chloë Grace Moretz once again does an amazing job with her. We loved her in Kick-Ass, and she’s even more bad assier now. And she’s older now, so her swearword-laden vocabulary is a bit more justified. Not that we cared in the first place, but it’s justified. In addition to this we loved the fact that the returning cast were able to jump back into their characters, without missing a beat from the first movie. And Jim Carrey did a PHENOMENAL job as Colonel Stars and Stripes

What we didn’t love:
There wasn’t nearly enough Hit-Girl. At all.

Keep a look out for:
Ball-biting German Shepherds, and adrenaline-infused throat stabbing.

Bottom line:
Kick-Ass 2 was better than the original, without even trying or having enough Hit-Girl. Great fucking job MARV. You done good. You ended the movie on a high note, so don’t go fucking it up by making anymore Kick-Ass movies. Make something else. And Aaron Johnson, we want your personal trainer.

Kick-Ass 2 premiered August 14, 2013.
