September 10, 2013 – Valery Ortiz, the host of “American Latino TV” and one of the stars of the new VH1 scripted series “Hit the Floor”, secures her first-ever magazine cover. The actress appeared on the cover of the May 2013 issue of Chulo Magazine, a Chicago-based national men’s magazine. In the article, Valery talked about her character from the show, “Raquel Saldaña”.
While attending the University of Central Florida for a Bachelor in Fine Arts, Ortiz was given an opportunity to host the Nickelodeon television show, “Splat!”. After relocating to Los Angeles, Ortiz worked on a local television show called LATV Live as a VJ, and later as a series regular on the popular TV show “South of Nowhere” from 2005–2008.
Antonio Sandoval, Editor-in-Chief of the magazine said, “I remember seeing Valery Ortiz when she was on South of Nowhere, and I was totally surprised to find out that she had never been on a magazine cover before. Getting to work with Valery was a really great thing for Chulo Magazine.”
When asked if she was surprised about getting the cover for the magazine, Valery replied “Yes! I still feel like this whole year is a surprise and seeing my picture on the cover of Chulo [Magazine] is a part of everything that’s been surreal about it! I feel lucky. I feel excited. It’s an overwhelming feeling! Thank you again for being a part of such a special year for me. What a whirlwind!”
Aside from an up-close and personal chat with Valery Ortiz, the May 2013 issue also included feature stories with up-and-coming models Kristina Love, Sara Rose, and PlayboyLive model Jessica Marie.
Other May issue highlights included: an interview with South African music star Nic Billington, a short Q&A with model Janice Rivera, who appeared in the first issue of Chulo Magazine, and reviews for Tom Cruise’s “Oblivion” and Injustice: Gods Among Us, the hit new fighting game from NetherRealm Games, creators of the famed Mortal Kombat series.
