Ubisoft has finally provided an update on the long-awaited title, ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’ — nearly three years later. The remake has been effectively rebooted with Ubisoft Montreal taking over the project from Ubisoft Pune. According to the company’s developer Q&A, the game is now ‘currently in the conception phase.’
Ubisoft first revealed plans to remake their 2003 hit back in September 2020, with the reboot set to be released in early 2021. This clearly didn’t happen, since work was quickly but briefly delayed, and then indefinitely, most likely because the world was still recovering from the pandammit, before Ubisoft took on the task of starting from scratch.
‘In terms of the development stage, we’re in conception right now,’ producer Jean-Francois Naud remarked in an in-house interview with Ubisoft colleagues. ‘Since we took over the project, we’ve been looking at feedback from the community and finding our own way of delivering the game.’
Naud went on to state that the firm is now increasing its workforce, developing prototypes, and testing various features. On Twitter, the official Prince of Persia account noted that The Sands of Time remake won’t be at June’s Ubisoft Forward showcase, “but fear not: it’s very much alive.” It’s just, again, in an “early stage” of development.
Ubisoft has not yet provided a revised release date for the Prince of Persia remake, or the platforms the game will appear.
