If you’ve never heard of cosplayer and model Heidi Mae Herrington, better known as Heidimaetrix, then allow us to change that.

Growing up in a small town in Missouri, Heidimaetrix grew up performing in her family’s travelling theatre show, The Caboodlestoppers, a troupe which included her parents and siblings. Later, she and two of her siblings started making funny music videos featuring re-worded songs by artists including Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and more. They also did parodies of movies and television shows including Suicide Squad and The Walking Dead.

Heidimaetrix appeared on the sixth season of Wife Swap along with her family, stating in one of her TikTok videos, ‘It was the worst mistake of our lives’.

Not letting that break her stride, the petite, blue-eyed beauty has gone on to gain a HUGE following on Instagram — no doubt because of her eye-catching pics and cosplays — with more than 204k followers and counting. Heidi has become well-known for her cosplay of characters from Star Wars, Fallout, DC Comics, and more.

Heidimaetrix is also on Tiktok with 166.4K followers currently, where she shares makeup tutorials, Q&A videos, product unboxing and reviews, and other funny videos.

Heidi took some time before heading off to Coachella to have a chat with us.

Welcome to Chulo Magazine, Heidimaetrix! How’s it feel being here? Thank you for having me. I’m grateful to be here.

What have you been getting up to lately? Lately, I’ve been balancing my full-time job at a marketing agency with creating content for myself on the weekends. It can be really challenging sometimes but I enjoy creating content for my community so much that It’s worth it! This weekend I’ll actually be attending Coachella for the first time which I’m really excited about!

Anything interesting about you that no one would know? I’m really bad at communicating verbally my brain will either jump sentences ahead of what I’m saying, say the words out of order in a nonsense sentence, or my mind will go completely blank mid-sentence. It makes it really hard to convey what I’m thinking because of that.

Then you’re literally too smart for words! Seriously, we took a vote and everything. Anyway, when you’re not hard at work or looking totally stunning in front of the camera, what are some of the things you absolutely love to do for fun? This one is really hard to answer. I’m actually quite the workaholic and have a very hard time not working. It really goes hand in hand with my anxiety disorder. But when I can force myself to relax I love watching gory anime, playing JRPG’s and watching true crime shows while eating snacks for dinner.

Let’s talk about your cosplays for a minute. How’d you get started with that? I started cosplaying about a year before the first Suicide Squad film came out, it really just took off from there.

How do you pick the characters you cosplay? I tend to pick characters that I relate to and ones that I feel like I can bring a fresh take to.

We’ve definitely noticed that! Speaking of fresh takes, you’ve done a lot of Harley Quinn cosplays, and an awesome mash-up called Penny Quinn, right? How’d you come up with that one? That’s right! Penny Quinn came about because I wanted to bring a new character to CCXP where I was a guest, I had just seen IT and loved it and the idea just hit me to combine the two characters and present it in a horror way.

You haven’t done many superhero cosplays, so would you consider yourself more an anti-hero kind of girl? I’m absolutely an anti-hero kind of girl. I’ve just never related to the straight as an arrow, black and white morality superheroes.

If you could date any character, who would that lucky fictional guy be? Oh, that’s easy! But it isn’t a guy. I’d date Selena Kyle from The Batman. Because she was so stunning in every scene and such a badass!

We approve of this dating choice. So what are you most looking forward to doing this year? I’m really looking forward to vacationing in Italy with my mom this summer! I’ve never been there before so I can’t wait to explore it!

Needless to say, we’re jealous. But moving on amidst our office-laden tears, describe yourself in one sentence. To quote Walt Whitman ‘I contain volumes… Of snacks and cute plushies’.

Any last words you would like to share with the readers? Never let anyone tell you who you are or what you’re capable of. Live your life for yourself and you’ll enjoy it so much more than trying to please the trolls.
