The Farer Stanhope II Watch is Effortlessly Cool

Farer revisits one of their 2018 classics, and it looks fantastic.

We absolutely love wristwatches here at Chulo Magazine, and England’s Farer has for a long time, been one of our favourite watchmakers since we first found them back in 2015. Anyone who appreciates finely crafted and eye-catching timepieces are likely to be familiar with them. With The Farer Stanhope II, the watchmaker revisits one of their 2018 classics, and we absolutely LOVE the look of it.

The Farer Stanhope II is the company’s most ambitious and effortlessly cool release to date, and we absolutely love the look of it. A familiar dial is set within an entirely new casing that pays homage to the original Stanhope, all while maintaining the qualities that made the watch an instant classic.

The Farer Stanhope II, which is currently priced at $995 (£875 GBP), represents excellent value for money when you consider the quality of its components and the sheer attention to detail that has gone into its design. Farer’s original Stanhope timepiece was first released in 2018 as part of the watchmaker’s hand-wound collection. It’s difficult not to be won over by the bold new visuals, including piqué textured white dial, a devilishly handsome, all-new, highly polished, three-part construction cushion case design, new for 2022.

Designed with Decadent Detail

The Farer Stanhope II dial is made with a multi-layer dial technique that results in an intricate piqué textured off-white central plate that is punched in for the sweeping sub-dial at 6 and cut in around the circumference to create the hour markings.

The textured plate of this majestic looking timepiece from the British watchmaker is complimented by the raised polished steel numerals at 12, 3, and 9 o’clock, as well as the hour batons infilled with midnight blue.

Super-LumiNova dots finish the raised wedge marker details on the hour indexes, linking to the rounded index hands, which have matching inset Super-LumiNova on both the hour and minute hands to add depth to the Stanhope design after dark.

The Farer Stanhope II’s 38.5mm case fits comfortably on any wrist, with the new cushion case architecture’s lines creating a barrel sided design that hugs the dial. The case of this watch is interesting, in that it is made up of three pieces: a case back, main case body, and bevelled bezel with an anti-reflective sapphire glass inset – resulting in a visually arresting piece from any angle. Because of an innovative scalloped inner case between the lugs for a snug fit, the watch straps appear to be integrated into the bat ear lug design.

The modified non-date SELLITA SW216-1 Elaboré Grade movement, which is notable for its thinness, reliability, and consistent performance day in and day out, powers this effortlessly cool watch from Farer. The micro-engraved bridge is finished with blue screws and a bespoke Farer arrow pattern. When the calibre is fully manually wound, the movement can provide 45 hours of power reserve, and the strap is St Venere leather 316L stainless steel with buckle fastening.

Farer Stanhope II

Definitely a Keeper

Ultimately, the Stanhope II is a must-have for us because of its well-executed blend of fine detail, colour, and ergonomics. Farer has maintained a distinct mid-century aesthetic whilst also keeping the dial looking fresh and modern. The navy background complements the silver nicely, and the light blue markings and bright red pointer add interest. Farer’s skilled design and eye for colour may be an acquired taste for some, but the new Stanhope II checks all of our boxes, so you should definitely have a look at it.
