Thor: The Dark World

Thor: The Dark World Review

If you’re a fan of Marvel superheroes, you’ll watch this movie just to be in the loop.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

I’m going to be completely honest and admit that I have no idea what in the hell was going on in Thor: The Dark World. I’m a fan of Marvel Comics movies, I’ve seen them all, including The Avengers (which was amazing). So I force myself to watch Thor because they all intertwine in some way. As seen in the preview, once Thor brings Jane to Asgard, she slaps Loki, ‘for New York’, referencing The Avengers. Awesome! I love that kind of stuff.

Thor: The Dark World

The only problem is that Thor is the weakest of the franchises, in my opinion. So most of the movie I kind of spaced out. The Dark World’s storyline drags on and so much happens, it was almost hard to follow along. The best parts of the movie were the humor and the action. Marvel movies never lack in the action department and Thor is a prime example of how badass their superheroes are. Even though I spaced out during the slower parts, I immediately snapped to attention whenever there was a fight or whenever a humorous scene came up. The funniest parts of the movie were pretty much every scene on earth, even the final battle on earth was extremely hilarious while also being heart-pounding and intense. (I’m not spoiling anything here, there is ALWAYS a ‘final battle’ in every action movie ever.)

If you’re a true fan of Marvel superheroes, you’ll watch this movie just to be in the loop. It may not be the best in the franchise (I’d say it’s tied for last with Captain America) but its action scenes and hilarity make the movie worth watching. Plus, almost every character is gorgeous, so it’s definitely easy on the eyes. Though I do wish that Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Jane (Natalie Portman) had better chemistry… they seem more like good buddies than people who would actually make out and even have sex at some point, which is odd seeing as they are two of the most beautiful people ever. Weirdest couple out of all the Marvel love stories for sure.

Thor: The Dark World

The week after the movie was released, the new ABC show Marvels: Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D’s opening scene was the agents cleaning up after the final battle in the Thor movie. I mention this because the show is amazing and everyone should watch it and because it was totally worth watching the movie just to see how the TV show tied it into their timeline. You cannot watch just one of the movies, like Iron Man (my favorite!), or just the TV show- you have to watch every part of the franchise for all for them to make sense; to get the timelines, the jokes, the one-liners, and the relationships they all have with each other. Even though Thor is like the stepbrother no one really hangs out with, The Dark World is still very entertaining!
