As the upcoming horror film Firestarter approaches its release date, Back Lot Music has released a track from the Firestarter soundtrack, to get Stephen King fans hyped up for the supernatural story starring Zac Efron and Ryan Kiera Armstrong.
Based on King’s best-selling novel, Firestarter follows a little girl with pyrokinetic abilities and her family as they try to escape a secret government agency that wants to capture her and use her abilities as a weapon.
Back in February, we mentioned that the soundtrack was composed by none other than horror music legend John Carpenter. Carpenter reunites with fellow composers Daniel Davies and Cody Carpenter to create the soundtrack, which is a landmark event. The trio previously collaborated on the iconic score for the classic horror film Halloween, but this is the first time they’ve collaborated on a project outside of the Michael Myers franchise.
The music, which has been described as atmospheric, cohesive and eclectic, is designed to reflect the trio’s progress as a creative partnership by bringing out the best in each of them.
Back Lot Music released an official statement detailing what listeners can expect from the Firestarter soundtrack, as well as the elements Carpenter and his team used to create the score:
The ‘Firestarter’ soundtrack utilises some of the best elements of Carpenter’s famous musical repertoire and charts exciting new territory. The tracks range from fist pumping sci-fi anthems to slow reverb drenched piano ballads and each utilises a variety of sonic applications. Skulking beats, skittering synths, crushing guitars and an ever-lurking echo come together to create an album that is atmospheric and also deeply melodic, cohesive and eclectic. These three musicians are all working at the peak of their individual and collaborative creativity and this soundtrack further solidifies them as masters of the craft.
Firestarter – End Titles, which is now available, is appropriately unsettling and implies that the score will do an excellent job of setting the tone for the horror story. Listeners will be able to listen to the whole soundtrack when it becomes available on 13 May 2022, the same day as Firestarter is released in cinemas, and exclusively on Peacock.
You can listen to the track below:
Additionally, collectors and lovers of physical media will be able to get their hands on vinyl, CD, and cassette copies of the soundtrack as early as 14 October 2022, when Sacred Bones Records plans to release the album.
