Slam Dunk Movie Release Date Announced

This has been a LONG time coming. 'Bout damn time!

The release date for the new Slam Dunk movie has been announced. The upcoming film, based on the famed anime series will have its official premiere date on 3 December 2022, and is officially titled The First Slam Dunk.

The original series creator Takehiko Inoue is currently on the team for The First Slam Dunk, serving as co-writer and co-director for the film with Toei Animation. He’ll be working alongside character designer and animation director Yasuyuki Ebara, CG director Daiki Nakazawa, CG producer Yuta Ogura, art director Kazuo Ogura, sound directors Yota Tsuruoka and Koji Kasamatsu, and technical directors Katsuhiko Kitada, Naoki Miyahara, Toshio Ohashi, and Yu Kamatani.

Inoue first announced the film on Twitter back in early January 2021, to a ridiculous amount of acclaim.

Below is a brief synopsis of the series from Crunchyroll:

Hanamichi Sakuragi is a delinquent with a long history of getting dumped by girls. After enrolling in Shohoku High School, Hanamichi becomes interested in a girl named Haruko who loves the game of basketball.

Slam Dunk debuted in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump back in 1990, and was later adapted into an anime television series that aired from October 1993 to March 1996. Before the recent announcement, Slam Dunk had four anime film sequels, the most recent of which was released in July of 1995.

On top of all this, fans can look for the new trailer for the movie on the film’s official YouTube page to drop on 7 July 2022.

If you want to check out the original 101-episode run of the Slam Dunk anime you can find it streaming on Crunchyroll.
