Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is Activision’s successor to last year’s Transformers: War for Cybertron, the highest-rated Transformers game of all time. The game is being developed by the uber-talented team at High Moon Studios, and from what we can tell, really immerses you more into the Transformers universe.
The game is set in a desolate, post-apocalyptic era, in the final days of the war between the Autobots and Decepticons as they fight for control of Cybertron, their dying home world. Players will fight through both sides of the Transformers’ epic battles that take place during their legendary evacuation from Cybertron, embarking on an action-packed journey through massive, war-torn environments designed around each character’s unique abilities and alternate forms.
During in-game battles, players will be able to convert from robot to alternate form to turn the tables in their favour. Grimlock can change into his powerful T-Rex Dinobot form for super strength and a fire-breathing attack, and the Combaticons can combine into the colossal Bruticus to beat the hell out of enemies with sheer size and power.
One of the features that we liked a lot is that every character has distinct skills and personalities that are suited for each of the missions that take place in the devastated ruins of Cybertron. For instance, [Autobot] Jazz can deploy his grappling hook to make his way across multi-level platforms, Cliffjumper can make himself invisible to perform stealth kills on enemies, and Optimus Prime can call in targeted artillery strikes from the sky. On top of all of this, several well-known Transformers characters make their in-game debut including Grimlock, the Insecticons, the Combaticons, the absolutely massive Metroplex, and a lot more.
By adding and improving upon their competitive multiplayer gameplay from War for Cybertron, High Moon Studios has created the most awesome character creator ever seen in a Transformers game. Players design their own unique characters with some of the most in-depth, advanced customizations that we’ve ever seen in a Transformers game. After choosing their individual body parts, colours, vehicle shapes, weapons, and abilities, players can then take their badass creations online to go head-to-head with other gamers in brutal matches to prove their supremacy.
From what we can tell, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron is going to be a welcome addition to your game library, whether you’re an old or new fan of the franchise.
Transformers: Fall of Cybertron will be released for the X-Box 360, PlayStation 3, and PC on 21 August 2012.
