Have you heard of Ani-Mia? If you’re involved in the awesome world of cosplay, you probably have. But if you haven’t we’re gonna change that, because there is no sodding reason that you should be missing out. Let’s get started.
Mia McLaughlin, better known by her cosplay moniker Ani-Mia, hails from Silver Springs, Maryland, starting off as a model, but has been doing cosplays of video games, comic books and anime characters since 2008, after being amazed by the cosplays that she had seen at conventions a few years before.
When she first started doing cosplay, she originally bought a costume online, but decided to make her own so that the costumes she wore would fit better. Despite never using a sewing machine before, she created her first cosplay — Nerine from Navel’s Shuffle! (シャッフル!) — and she hasn’t stopped since. In college, Mia majored in art history, with a minor in photography which she says definitely gives her a love and appreciation for cosplay as an art form.
Speaking of cosplay, we have a few pics of Ani-Mia dressed as DC Comics’ Zatanna, which is among our favourite cosplays to see. It takes a certain kind of sexiness to properly pull off Zatanna’s reverse-spell speaking awesomeness, but we think that Mia does an awesome job with that. We DARE you to tell us that we’re wrong.
Now, while the majority of Ani-Mia’s costumes are created by herself, she has collaborated with a few of the best designers in the business on a few occasions. She has also worked with numerous cosplayers, artists, and convention organizers to help bring the cosplay community together, by providing her knowledge in costume-making to new cosplayers.
