Street Fighter 6 Trailer Confirms a Much-Needed Revamp

The upcoming entry to the legendary franchise seems to be a game-changer.

Capcom revealed the first detailed look at Street Fighter 6 at the Sony State of Play conference, and the upcoming entry to the legendary fighting game franchise seems to be a game-changer.

The latest Street Fighter 6 trailer confirms many things, including the return of veteran fighters Ryu (now sporting a beard and looking juiced as FUCK) and Chun-Li (who has a mostly new look), as well as recent newcomer Luke (who made his debut with Street Fighter 5 DLC) and brand-new fighter Jamie, an expert breakdancer.

You can check out the trailer below:

Street Fighter 6 introduces three new game modes this time around, including:

  • Fighting Ground, which focuses on the basic fighting game experience featuring modes from prior games in the series
  • World Tour, an immersive single-player story mode.
  • Battle Hub, will provide players with new and unique ways to engage, communicate and interact.

Street Fighter 6 honours the franchise’s legacy by bringing together core fighting modes from previous games, such as Arcade Mode, online matches, Training Mode, local versus battles, and more, into the Fighting Ground experience.

Capcom says they will also have much more to share on World Tour and Battle Hub as Street Fighter 6 gets closer to launch.

As far as the game controls go, the Classic Control type is back, along with a new option. With the new Modern Control type, players can get right into the action with fewer inputs. This scheme makes special moves easier to execute by combining one button press with a directional input.

The Drive System is another new addition to Street Fighter 6. The gauge allows players to perform five different techniques to enhance their offensive or defensive capabilities, including Drive Impact, Drive Parry, Overdrive Art, Drive Rush, and Drive Reversal.

Street Fighter 6 will also have real-time in-game commentary, similar to sports video games, with audio recorded by ‘popular Fighting Game Community commentators’, which include Jeremy ‘Vicious’ Lopez and Ryutaro ‘Aru’ Noda. Right now, it’s unclear whether the game will be available in multiple languages across all areas, or whether Japanese Street Fighter 6 players will hear Aru, while Americans will hear Vicious. However, Capcom has stated that the feature will also support subtitles in 13 languages for increased accessibility.

Street Fighter 6 looks like it has something for everyone – new and old fans alike. The game will be released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC through Steam, and Xbox Series X in 2023.

It goes without saying that we absolutely CANNOT wait for it. In the meantime, you can keep up with Street Fighter on Twitter at @StreetFighter, Instagram @streefightergame, and Facebook at facebook.com/streetfighter.
