During the 2014 C2E2, we needed some much-needed energy from a combination of running around all day and lack of sleep. We came across a booth with samples of a product called Energems, an energy booster made with real milk chocolate and infused with caffeine, B vitamins and a proprietary energy mix.
We grabbed a few packs, to not seem greedy. So, one of our C2E2 group who shall remain nameless ate one pack and felt the effects of the candies within a few minutes. According to him, he felt a lot more alert and he DEFINITELY seemed like he had more energy to the rest of us, which for HIM to have noticeably more energy is saying a lot.
When we finally got them back to our office, we had everyone try Energems and here’s what we all came up with:
First off, They’re a bit bigger than an M&M, about the size of a Mentos. They currently have three flavours available, including Chocolate, Mint Chocolate and Peanut Butter, with a hard shell candy coating. One serving (three pieces) is the equivalent of one cup of coffee, and if you get a box (we got sample packs), there are three servings per box. Aesthetically speaking, the packaging looks good. We’ve seen a lot of energy products that look like they’re just clones of each other, which isn’t the case with Energems — you can immediately tell that you’re getting a premium product.
The best flavours hands-down are the Chocolate and the Mint Chocolate. The chocolate isn’t Godiva or anything, but it’s definitely on par with anything you would find in the checkout line at the store. The Peanut Butter isn’t bad, but it didn’t taste enough like peanut butter for most of us here. The Mint Chocolate could stand to be a lot more minty, too.
No matter which flavour you try, they all have a bit of a Redbull-esque aftertaste. The proprietary energy mix in Energems has taurine in it, which is also in Redbull, so that’s what the taste might be. While not an immediately bad thing, it does remind you that you’re eating an energy supplement and not a piece of candy.
The best thing about Energems is the convenience factor. Once you open a can of Monster, Redbull, etc., you’re kinda committed to drinking all of it in a relatively short period of time. Energems eliminates that altogether. And the shelf life of these things is AMAZING. When we were at the C2E2, we grabbed as many bags as they would let us take. We like free stuff, so needless to say, we took a lot. We were still eating them around the office almost 5 months later, and they tasted just as good as when we robbed their booth.
All in all, we have to say that you should really try Energems out because they are AMAZEBALLS. If you’re needing a boost, these are definitely a tasty and convenient way to go. We don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
