Vin Diesel is back, after absolutely shattering the box office with Furious 7, this time as a witch hunter. Yeah, that’s right – a witch hunter. Lionsgate-Summit recently released the first trailer for The Last Witch Hunter, and the action-fantasy finds the Fast & Furious star going from racing in Los Angeles to battling witches in New York City. The Last Witch Hunter tells the story of an immortal warrior named Kaulder (Diesel), who has been locked in a centuries-long battle against supernatural creatures. His mission takes him all the way to modern-day New York City, where an uprising of witches begins to threaten humanity – and it’s his responsibility to take them out. He also once again crosses paths with an old enemy, in the sexy form of German actress Julie Engelbrecht, in her first appearance stateside film appearance.
The trailer looks pretty good to us, and while Vin Diesel hasn’t had any problems carrying an action film on his own, witch hunting might be a tough sell. Furthermore, recent modern-day fantasies – like 2013’s The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and last year’s I, Frankenstein – haven’t done too well at the box office. But who knows? Director Breck Eisner (The Crazies) might just change the game.
The film also stars Elijah Wood, Michael Caine and Rose Leslie of Game of Thrones, who is absolutely no stranger to the cinematic fantasy world.
