Nintendo and Illumination released the final trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, starring Chris Pratt as Nintendo’s iconic plumber, giving a final look at the highly-anticipated film before it hits cinemas in April.
The new trailer shows more details about the film, including the fact that the plot revolves around Mario and Peach’s quest to rescue Luigi from Bowser’s clutches. The trailer also includes nods to Mario spinoffs such as Super Smash Bros., but the biggest reference is to Mario Kart, with everyone racing down Rainbow Road, the series’ most famous track, in a Mad Max-style battle. You can check out the trailer below:
Following the first look at the film in October (along with Pratt’s take on Mario), there have been a few trailers since then, focusing on characters such as Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy), Toad (Keegan-Michael Key), and Donkey Kong (Seth Rogen). Charlie Day and Jack Black play Luigi and Bowser, respectively.
The film’s release date has been moved up to 5 April (instead of the 7th). The Super Mario Bros. Movie is part of Nintendo’s larger push into the entertainment world, which also includes a series of theme parks.
