It’s official, Ryan Reynolds will be back as Deadpool! Reynolds announced his return to the role in a December 4 Twitter post, with a tweet featuring an image of the Marvel anti-hero made out of bullet casings with the caption, “Uh… It’s Chimichanga Time.”
Reynolds, best known for his roles in National Lampoon’s Van Wilder and Blade: Trinity, was rumored to be returning to the role of the wise-cracking anti-hero. Reynolds was first seen as the wisecracking, “Merc with a Mouth” in 2009’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”
Although, we think THAT version of Deadpool sucked, and should totally be erased from the minds of everyone. But, moving on…
News of the official Deadpool release date followed leaked test footage on the Internet over the summer. The video went viral, people went absolutely nuts over it and the project gained some new momentum. The video, shot a few years ago, also featured actor Ryan Reynolds in the lead, voicing the computer-generated Deadpool. Fox greenlit the movie in September, with Deadpool becoming part of Fox’s strategy of building a larger cinematic universe for its X-franchise.
This film adaptation of Marvel’s Deadpool series is scheduled to hit theaters on Feb. 12, 2016, with Tim Miller set to direct.
