Early on, Deadpool drops a line about joining the MCU at a bit of a low point, which is basically putting it mildly. Since ‘Avengers: Endgame‘, Marvel’s been trying to recapture that magic, but it’s been a bit of a struggle. Between the meh TV shows and so-so movies, the MCU’s been feeling a bit bloated. But then comes ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, and it’s like a breath of fresh air. This film is seriously up there with the best of the MCU.
We can’t really go into the plot without spoiling it all, but, Deadpool’s trying to live a quiet life, but then the Time Variance Authority from Loki shows up, and through a series of events, Deadpool teams up with Wolverine. It’s like the MCU’s version of a dream team, even when they’re trying to kill each other.
We were a bit worried about them bringing back Wolverine after ‘Logan’, which was an absolute tear-jerker. But don’t worry, they’ve done it justice. This Wolverine is still all moody and angry, but there’s a new depth to him.
The film’s packed with swearing, jokes, and violence. It’s like they turned up the dial to eleven. The fight scenes are insane – proper gory, over-the-top fun. And the soundtrack? It’s like they cherry-picked the best songs ever.
Yeah, it’s mostly silly and full of jokes, but it also deals with some heavier stuff. Deadpool and Wolverine have been through a lot, and you can see it. Ultimately, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ is a massive love letter to Marvel fans. It’s got all the cameos and references you could want, and it’s just plain fun.
Will it save the superhero genre or the MCU? We’ll have to wait and see. But for now, Deadpool & Wolverine is a bloody brilliant laugh-a-minute ride.
