Believe it or not, rapper/singer 6LACK‘s last album was released five years ago. Since then, he’s been everywhere, appearing as a featured guest on many of his peers’ songs and even releasing his EP, ‘6pc Hot’, back in 2020. However, he’s back in album mode now, making his comeback with his latest project, ‘Since I Have A Lover‘.
The 19-track album, which clocks in at around an hour, features only two guest appearances: QUIN on ‘wunna dem’ and Don Toliver on ‘Temporary.’ It features previously released singles ‘Since I Have A Lover,’ ‘Fatal Attraction,’ ‘Talkback,’ and ‘Rent Free,’ and is the artist’s first full-length studio effort since 2018’s East Atlanta Love Letter.
‘”Since I Have a Lover,”‘ the title track, is the highs of having a healthy love, compressed into song format. It’s a note to self that I’m no longer who I was or where I was and that there’s a bigger purpose starting to reveal itself in the things I create,’ 6LACK said in a press release. ‘We are simply pushing love because it’s needed. The verses are short and serve as a moment of acknowledgement for how I feel, and the chorus is less of a lyric and more of a feeling. It’s an exhale; it’s relief, it’s trust, it’s happiness, it’s surreal.’
