Marvel has released a first look at the highly anticipated Thor: Love and Thunder, and we take back every negative thought we had about it, because HOLY SHIT does it look good.
Set to Guns ‘N Roses’ ‘Sweet Child ‘O Mine’, the trailer begins after the events of Avengers: Endgame with Thor Odinson (Chris Hemsworth), as a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, on a quest for self-discovery. ‘These hands were once used for battle, now they‘re but humble tools for peace’, he says as he sets down his new hammer Stormbreaker, and gazes out the window into an intergalactic sunset, ‘Now I need to figure out exactly who I am.’
The trailer shows Thor on a pirate ship kissing an unknown woman, Thompson’s Valkyrie ruling over New Asgard as its king, a lightning-bolt wielding guy who is most likely Russell Crowe as the Greek god Zeus. The teaser‘s most exciting moment comes in the last few seconds, when Natalie Portman‘s Jane Foster is revealed as the new Mighty Thor in her comic-accurate Mighty Thor costume.

Taika Waititi, who directed 2017s critically acclaimed ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, will direct this fourth instalment in the Thor franchise.
Chris Pratt, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel are set to reprise their roles, along with Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie and Waititi himself, who plays the rock gladiator Korg.
Along with familiar faces, ‘Love and Thunder’ will bring new characters to the franchise. Gorr the God Butcher, played by Christian Bale, is a relatively modern Marvel character, having been developed by Aaron and Esad Ribic in 2013. Melissa McCarthy and Ben Falcone are reportedly likely to appear in cameo roles. Jenny Morris and Simon Russell Beale have been cast in the film in roles that have yet to be revealed. In addition, Jaimie Alexander, Sean Gunn, and Jeff Goldblum will reprise their MCU roles, as Lady Sif, Kraglin Obfonteri, and The Grandmaster, respectively.
‘Love and Thunder’ is based on Jason Aaron’s critically acclaimed run on the comic book ‘The Mighty Thor,’ in which Jane Foster, who dated and broke up with Thor, assumed the superhero’s mantle after the sacred hammer Mjolnir considered him unworthy and stripped him of his powers. Foster’s newfound power, however, comes at a high price in the comics: every time she wields the hammer, her breast cancer worsens. However, it’s unclear whether the film will follow the same plot.
‘Thor: Love and Thunder‘ premieres in cinemas on 8 July 2022.
