Kim Sang-jin, better known as Jin Kim, is the Character Design Supervisor at Walt Disney Animation Studios, and he really loves Studio Ghibli. He drew a pretty bad-ass Big Hero 6 fan art to show his appreciation for Studio Ghibli’s Hayao Miyazaki.
Kim first posted the picture back in November 2014, but it’s been gaining some popularity recently among fans of Big Hero 6 and Studio Ghibli’s films. Now, if you don’t recognize the name, Hayao Miyazaki is one of Japan’s greatest animation directors, and is famous for creating a ton of really awesome anime like Princess Mononoke (もののけ姫), Kiki’s Delivery Service (魔女の宅急便), Spirited Away (千と千尋の神隠し), and My Neighbour Totoro (となりのトト), which is the film that Kim’s fan art references (the picture pays homage to the film’s theatrical poster).
The caption on Jin’s Tumblr Page simply read, “This is my tribute to great Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli” which kinda says it all. Check out the pic below:
Like we said, awesome right? Well, we think it’s awesome, and also think that Miyazaki would be proud. If you’re into animation and want to get a look into the creative process of a great artist, you should check out Jin’s Tumblr page. There’s some pretty good stuff there.
What do you think of the artwork?
