The final Shazam trailer brings some more childlike levity to the dark and gritty DC Extended Universe, but pits the hero against an electricity-slinging villain. We’re still not getting much as far as the plot is concerned, which leaves us to wonder — how much more is there to this movie? What we do get however, plenty of found-footage comedy that — unlike Shazam himself — actually lands. You can check out the trailer below:

Shazam! tells the story of 14-year-old Billy Batson, a streetwise foster kid who can — courtesy of an ancient wizard — turn into the adult superhero Shazam. Basically a kid inside a ripped, godlike body, Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Billy and his foster brother Freddy Freeman team up to figure out just what the extent of his powers are, in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana — a bad guy with powers of his own.

Starring Zachary Levi (Thor: The Dark World, TV’s Chuck) as Shazam, Asher Angel (The Disney Channel’s Andi Mack) as Billy Batson, and Mark Strong (Kick-Ass, Kingsman: The Secret Service) as Dr. Thaddeus Sivana, Shazam marks another (thankful) change in tone for DC movies, as the DC Extended Universe tries to find its footing after 2017’s Justice League. The lighthearted and goofy Shazam follows 2018’s uber-fantastic Aquaman, and will be followed in October by an 1980s-gangster take on the Joker.

Shazam! flies into cinemas on 5 April 2019.
