Valiant has unleashed another great new series. Meet the world’s worst superheroes.

When Valiant Comics announced that they were re-launching Quantum and Woody back in May, we were happy as hell to hear about it. Quantum and Woody was among one of the best comic book series that we were reading back in the day. Valiant, who since breaking back onto the comic book scene with X-O Manowar back in May, has cranked out hit after badass-infused hit. And they have definitely not disappointed with Quantum and Woody.

Originally created by Christopher Priest and Mark Bright back 1997, this re-imagined version is headed by writer James Asmus and artist Tom Fowler. The book was kinda like a buddy-cop series with super powers. This time around, Valiant has weaked a few things, the most noticeable being that instead of being childhood friends they’re now adoptive brothers, Quantum is the only one wearing a costume, and Woody doesn’t have that stupid mullet anymore. In the reboot, their father has been murdered, with the police suspecting that the brothers may have been involved. The duo will have to figure out who did it before they end up being arrested for the crime.

Check out a few pages from the first issue:

What we loved:
James Asmus did an AMAZING job writing this issue. From the first page, he does a great job setting up a great backstory, with jumps between the past and present. Asmus starts off the issue with the duo at the tail-end of doing something that was more than likely stupid, with heroic intentions. He sets up Quantum and Woody’s being “The World’s Worst Superhero Team” and keeps it going from there.

Artistically speaking, Tom Fowler has to be one of the most UNDERRATED comic book artists in the freaking industry. Damn near a modern-day Jack Kirby. With the way he draws, you get a really good sense of the characters by expressions alone, and he puts a lot of detail into the action scenes and various locations. Both Marvel and DC Comics should be beating his door down to work with them.

What we didn’t love:
Not a damn thing. The book is fucking amazing.

Keep a look out for:
Pissing in bathtubs, Woody getting on people’s nerves, and learning how to say “Drop the gun” in Spanish.

Bottom line:
Quantum & Woody are back, and they are as amazing as ever. We can’t wait to see more. If you’re still not convinced that Quantum & Woody is worth the read, then you should be beaten with a sack of flaming goat poo.
