When Valiant Comics showed back up on the comic book scene in 2012, we don’t think that the world knew what they were in for. With a new army of writers and artists, Valiant has been um… Valiantly [ed. Really?] kicking ass and taking names. Marvel and DC (mostly Marvel) have been coming out with movies every ten seconds over the last decade.
And while we’re not complaining at all, we’d definitely like to see some of our favourite Valiant heroes on the big screen. So here in no particular order, is our list of the Valiant comic books that should be a major motion picture, and who we think should get the acting gig.
X-O Manowar
X-O Manowar is one of those characters that have deserved their own movie for a while. Effectively being Valiant’s awesome answer to Iron-Man (although his armour Shanhara is better than Jarvis, in our opinion), there’s a reason the book has sold more than 8 million copies to date.
We weren’t sure of who would properly capture the overall badassery of Aric of Dacia, but we eventually settled on Michael Fassbender.
Eternal Warrior
The whole immortal thing has been done in comic books already, but Eternal Warrior does it really well. Damn near any fit actor could play the ageless Gilad Anni-Padda, but we’re gonna have to go with Colin Farrell for this one.
For Gilad’s sister, Vexana Anni-Padda, aka War-Monger, it’s a tie between Charlize Theron and Milla Jovovich.
Archer & Armstrong
Wow, Valiant really has a thing for immortality, don’t they? We went through a ton of choices, but we eventually settled on Gerard Butler as immortal boozer Aram Anni-Padda, AKA Armstrong.
We decided that The Last Exorcism’s Spencer Treat Clark as sheltered former bible thumper Archer would be a great fit to play him. And Colin Farrell would have a cameo as the Eternal Warrior too. Sweet!
Quantum and Woody
These guys have had our attention from their reboot, with the funniest book in Valiant’s arsenal. We needed two guys who would have some decent chemistry as the brothers Henderson.
Our choices are Isaiah ‘Old Spice Guy’ Mustafa as straight-laced Quantum and Ryan Reynolds as his fast-talking brother Woody, for no other reason than he does comedy well, and needs to redeem himself from ever starring in Green Lantern.
Rai
We liked Rai back in the day, and the rebooted series by Matt Kindt and Clayton Crain has definitely taken the series to some new levels of awesome, with an amazing storyline and engaging characters. And Crain has pretty much created the storyboards for a movie, so your work is damn near done Hollywood!
Now, while there are a lot of really talented guys who could play the famed ‘Ghost of Japan,’ we settled on Hawaii Five-O’s Daniel Dae Kim.
Did we get it right? Would you pick someone else? Let us know.
