Check Out These Sexy Super Mario Bros Cosplays

What better way to celebrate Mario Day?
10 March 2023

Mario Day is once again upon us, and we couldn’t think of any better way to celebrate it than with rounds of Mario Kart, and Super Mario Bros-inspired adult beverages. And since we can’t share that with you, because there are WAY too many of you, and we ain’t got the budget for that, we decided to do what could instead — pics of uber-hot Super Mario Bros Cosplayers.

Now, some of you may be wondering what the hell Mario Day is. Well, while the exact origins of the date are unknown, it has been celebrated for over a decade now. Beginning as a fan-discovered iconic resemblance between Mario and ‘Mar10’ – Nintendo also acknowledged it, and it has been an official Nintendo holiday since 2016.

When Nintendo officially recognised the holiday and began celebrating it annually, they began promoting new and old games, offering special deals and discounts, hosting Mario-themed events, and promoting sales on some of their games. It didn’t take long for fans to start doing their own Mario Bros cosplay, either. And we’re TOTALLY glad they did.

While you’re looking at the sexy Mario Bros cosplayers, here’s a bit about the plumber, who would go on to be ‘Super’ Mario, along with his brother Luigi. Mario’s first appearance was ‘Donkey Kong,’ released by Nintendo in 1981. Shigeru Miyamoto, the critically acclaimed Japanese video game designer who also created Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, and Starfox, designed the iconic character.

Mario Bros. was released in arcades two years later, in 1983, and features Mario and his brother Luigi exterminating creatures emerging from the sewers by knocking them upside-down and kicking them away. interestingly enough, even though they’ve always been associated together as brothers, most people don’t know that they are in fact, fraternal twins, a fact confirmed by the late former president and CEO of Nintendo, Saturo Iwata.

In 1985, the first game in the Super Mario series, ‘Super Mario Bros.‘ was released for the Famicom in Japan, followed by a limited US release for the Nintendo Entertainment System. 1988 saw the release of Super Mario Bros. 2, which came about after Nintendo of America deemed 1986’s Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels too difficult for Western audiences, which led Nintendo to redevelop the Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic into a Super Mario Bros. game for the international release.

As far we’re concerned, it was (and still is) kinda lame, as it doesn’t really feel like Super Mario Bros. — because it wasn’t. It is, however, one of the earliest games to feature a playable female, Princess Peach, in its roster of four selectable characters.

But who gives a damn, because not too long after, Super Mario Bros. 3 showed up, taking everything players loved about Super Mario Bros., and cranking that shit to a BILLION.

The Mario Bros video games were so successful, a movie adaptation of the game, titled ‘Mario Bros,’ was released in 1993, but it was an absolute shit show, and flopped both commercially and with audiences. This was one of the first attempts to recreate a video game into a movie. However, the movie went on to become a cult classic with people that apparently huff glue.

Seriously it sucked, and should never be watched unless you’re high. And if you DO happen to watch it while sober, don’t say we didn’t try and stop you.

But apparently, lessons were learnt, as The Super Mario Bros. Movie, a joint venture by Nintendo and Illumination, and starring Chris Pratt as Nintendo’s iconic plumber, is hitting cinemas in April. If you haven’t already seen the trailer, Nintendo and Illumination released the final trailer earlier today.
