Georgia-based model Shay Marette found us on Twitter, via fellow model Lala Dickinson, and just like Lala, she is an absolute doll! She’s been modelling since she was a teenager, and has blossomed into a model that is going to be simply amazing. She has this thing for football players, which kind of sucks for most of us… Ah well.
We talked to Shay and had an awesome time with her, to get answers to our favorite Q&A.
What is your full name?
I think I wanna keep that a secret! (laughs)
Um, okay. So what made you choose Shay Marette as your stage name?
Shay Marette is actually my first and middle name combined. I’ve always liked the sound of it, it’s French. I also think it’s unique and rolls off the tongue well!
Where were you born, and how was life growing up?
I was born in Montgomery, Alabama on an Air Force base. I think I had a pretty normal life. I was blessed to be raised by both parents in one home. My household was very grounded and steady. So I have a pretty good foundation. My parents raised me with a lot of character.
What nationality are you?
I am African American, or at least that’s the box I check! (laughs) I consider myself a black woman, but I have a very diverse ethnic background. Everything from Jewish to Native American..
Do you go to college?
Yes! I was attending Troy University, but I am currently transferring to Auburn University of Montgomery. I’m majoring in Broadcast Journalism, so watch out for me on your TV screen! Haha.
How long have you been modelling?
I’ve been modelling since I was 16, so about 4 years.
How did you get your start in modelling?
My first job was on the runway. I hadn’t even had my first photoshoot yet! It was a challenge because I was inexperienced and didn’t really know how to connect with my body yet.
Where have we seen you?
I have been featured on different websites, such as Ggurls.com, Mergeby.com and NikoleHen.com.
Do you consider yourself famous?
No, I don’t. I’m more like, local famous. But I don’t think I’m nationally famous. I would like to be a household name. I want to get to the point where I can help other young women accomplish their dreams… I’m all about girl power. (laughs)
What do you like best about being a model?
The different roles you can model! I like that I can play dress up and be someone else for a few hours. I love portraying different emotions just using my face and body language!!
What would you be if you weren’t a model?
If I wasn’t a model I would be a trophy wife! (laughs) I’m a fan of love and men with power! But honestly, I don’t know what I would do if I couldn’t model. I’ve been dreaming of this since childhood.
What would the average person say about you?
They would say, “When I first met her I thought she was a total bitch! But she’s actually pretty cool once you get to know her!” (laughs)
I get that so often. My first impression can sometimes be a little intimidating to people, but I kinda like that about myself. I’m just a no-nonsense type of person.
What’s one thing about yourself that everyone should know?
I really do have a tender heart! My rough exterior can sometimes hide that, but I really do care about people!
Are you a good dancer?
Um, I think so, but I think my dancing can be a little slutty, stripper-ish. So, I just choose not to dance in public! (laughs)
What do guys compliment you most on?
My eyes. Guys love my eyes. I think they’re my best feature. They’re big and gorgeous, and I use them to look right through people! (laughs)
Do you like the nerdy type, MMA fighter guy or the regular Joe?
Um, whatever is closest to a football player! (laughs) My friends call me ‘cleat-chaser’ because I always date athletes! But the truth is that they always find me!
You have a thing for athletes, huh?
Actually, they have a thing for me. I’ve been approached by major football players wanting to be with me. And they’re usually ALWAYS a running back, which is kind of weird. Oh wow… This is gonna make me sound like a golddigger, but that’s not it.
Are you seeing anyone? Do we stand a chance with you?
There is this one particular guy who has caught my attention and he has been doing a pretty good job of dating me! He’s a total gentleman, but I am single and I do have my options open, just in case.
Do you have any secret weaknesses or guilty pleasures?
My guilty pleasure is piercings! For some strange reason, I love the feeling of it (laughs). Oh my God, I’ve never told anyone that!
What’s your biggest turn-on?
Success and ambition. I love a man that knows what he wants out of life and isn’t afraid to go after it.
Do you consider yourself more of a ‘giver’ or a ‘taker’?
I’m smack dab in the middle! I’m very generous, but I better get mine!
What is the most romantic thing a guy has done for you?
Me and my now ex had a big fight, and didn’t speak to each other for a few days. He later came to my job with a huge ring and begged for forgiveness. It was cute.
If you could have any car you wanted, what would it be?
A Volkswagen Beetle! I know that sounds crazy, but I love those little fat, chubby things (laughs)
Do you have any hidden talents?
(laughs) I’ll never tell.
What would you consider your strongest attribute?
My go-getter personality! I feed off of the doubt from others.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and who would you take with you?
I would go to Heaven, just to see what it’s like. I would say what’s up to God and everybody up there. I would probably take my Mama. She loves God, so I think she would enjoy the trip! (laughs)
What do you normally sleep in?
A huge T-shirt. Gotta let everything air out, you know.
What is your favourite food?
I heart soul food! Collard greens, cornbread, all that!
Do you have a favourite comedian?
Jim Carey.
What do you do for fun?
I’m a homebody! I love to be at home watching a good movie, curled up next to a hot man! (laughs)
Do you like video games? If so, what do you play?
NO! Ugh, hate ’em! I’m horrible at it.
Are you into sports? Do you have a favourite sports team?
Not really. But I’m a Roll Tide fan! Go Alabama!
What are your dreams and goals?
My goal is to take this modelling career as far as I can, so that I can use my fame to change the lives of other young girls.
