Sega’s action-horror game Alien: Isolation has now sold more than one million copies, since its release in October 2014. Publisher Sega announced the sales figure yesterday on Twitter, noting that the number represents the units sold worldwide.
Alien: Isolation is set in 2137, 15 years after events from the movie Alien and 42 years before Aliens. The game follows Amanda Ripley, who is investigating the disappearance of her mother, Ellen Ripley. Amanda is transferred to the space station Sevastopol where she discovers that an Alien has terrorized the station and killed most of the crew.
‘We set out to make the Alien game we had always wanted to play, and from these figures, it seems we also succeeded in making the Alien game another million wanted to play’, creative lead Alistair Hope said. ‘We hope many more gamers enjoy Alien: Isolation in 2015.’
Sega’s licensing partner for the game, Twentieth Century Fox, also seemed really happy about Isolation’s success. ‘Fox is enormously pleased with how both Sega and Creative Assembly have realized their homage to Ridley Scott’s iconic film Alien’, Fox Consumer Products VP Michael Doyle said. ‘The project represents a paradigm shift in what is possible in the arena of licensed games.’
Isolation has had a much slower start compared to Gearbox Software’s critically panned Aliens: Colonial Marines, which reached 1.3 million copies sold in a month and a half after the game’s release in February 2013. Alien: Isolation launched on 7 October 2014 for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC.
