People have been talking about it for a long time, and now it’s finally happening. Channing Tatum will be lighting up the silver screen as Marvel Comics’ Ragin’ Cajun in Gambit, with Fox setting a 7 October 2016 release date for the spin-off from the X-Men movie franchise. Tatum celebrated the news on Twitter by tweeting ‘How do you say October 7, 2016 in Cajun?’
News of Gambit’s arrival comes just a few months after Fox confirmed that they’d given the green light to Deadpool, which Ryan Reynolds was confirmed last month as the title character. Josh Zetumer (RoboCop) was hired to write the script for Gambit back in October, based on a story by writer Chris Claremont, who co-created the character back in 1990.
Now, it remains to be seen whether the Gambit will exist in the same universe as the other X-Men films, like Deadpool. The character originally had his big-screen debut back in 2009, in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, played by Taylor Kitsch. There’s currently no word on who’ll be directing, but it has been reported that Tatum will also be serving as one of the film’s co-producers.
The news for Gambit comes along with a lot of other titles, which include release dates for their Assassin’s Creed adaptation, starring Michael Fassbender, a sequel to The Fantastic Four reboot which premieres in summer 2015 (which we personally are NOT looking forward to, by the way), and a lot more.
