Channing Tatum’s Gambit is Finally Here

The perfect embodiment of the 'Ragin' Cajun'.
7 August 2024

It was a dream realised for countless fans when Channing Tatum finally stepped into the role of Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine. After years of waiting, dodging, and downright disappointment, the Magic Mike star finally got his shot — and he did NOT disappoint.

We’ve been waiting YEARS for Gambit to hit the big screen, ever since Taylor Kitsch was cast as the character in 2009’s ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ — even though he wasn’t wearing his uniform. Kitsch would’ve likely returned in a solo Gambit film back then, but Kitsch decided that he was done playing heroes. Probably because John Carter was a box office fail (it’s still a good movie, and we suggest checking it out).

Gambit

Tatum first announced his playing Gambit on Twitter back in 2015, much to the excitement of fans everywhere. But NOOOOO… It all had to go absolutely tits up when that whole Disney-Fox merger thing happened, and our collective hopes were beat to hell. But thankfully, Ryan Reynolds and crew had other plans.

Tatum is the perfect embodiment of the ‘Ragin’ Cajun’, with the charm and cocky swagger that Gambit is known for fully intact. It was honestly a triumph for fans who had waited patiently for this moment. While that project ultimately didn’t materialize, his appearance in Deadpool & Wolverine proved to be a more than satisfactory consolation prize.

Gambit

With all this said, we think (hope?) that this is more than just a cameo, peoples. It’s a full-blown Gambit introduction, and with the exception of his eyes STILL being the wrong colour, it’s everything we’ve ever wanted. The movie itself delivered insane action, witty banter, and characters you can’t help but love. If you haven’t already seen it, then you NEED to see Deadpool & Wolverine. Trust us, it’s epic.
