There’s dark magic afoot. According to an announcement made via the game’s official Twitter, Hogwarts Legacy won’t be available for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One until 5 May 2023. This marks the fourth time the game has been delayed since its release date back in 2021.
If you didn’t already know, Hogwarts Legacy is an action role-playing game with an open world to explore and a character builder to customise your own name, gender, voice, and appearance. It takes place within the familiar Harry Potter universe, but before ‘The Boy Who Lived’ was born.
There was no specific reason given for the delay, with the tweet reading:
‘We’re overwhelmed with gratitude for the response to Hogwarts Legacy from fans around the globe. The team is working hard to deliver the best possible experience on all platforms and we need more time to do this. Hogwarts Legacy will launch for PS4 and Xbox One May 5, 2023.’
This essentially reiterates what they said when they announced that the game wouldn’t be released for older consoles back in February. If we’re being honest, it just looks like they’re waiting for more people to upgrade their consoles, but those PS4s and Xbox Ones are still going strong for current owners.
So if you have an older console, you’ll have to wait another two months for Hogwarts Legacy, assuming Warner Bros. Games and Avalanche Software don’t push back the release date — again. The developers didn’t mention anything about the Nintendo Switch release, so that version is still likely scheduled for release on 25 July.
