Paramount Pictures has pulled director Justin Lin to direct Star Trek 3, the third instalment in Paramount’s rebooted Star Trek franchise. Justin Lin replaces Roberto Orci, who got the gig after being involved as co-writer for the first two films in the rebooted Star Trek series. Orci gave up the job in early December, leaving an empty seat that many fans wanted to see filled by Star Trek veteran Jonathan Frakes.
Lin has directed four films in Universal Pictures’ Fast & Furious franchise, including Fast & Furious 6, which made more than $788 million worldwide.
JJ Abrams directed the first two Star Trek films in the rebooted movie series, but later left to direct the upcoming Star Wars film Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Orci will reportedly still serve as a writer and producer on the film, which is slated for a 2016 release.
We’re all fans of the Fast & Furious flicks over here, so we think that Justin Lin will do some justice to the film. What do you think about him as the new director of Star Trek 3? Let us know on Twitter.
