James Franco and Seth Rogen in The Interview.

Hackers Demand Sony Cancel The Interview

The hacker group Guardians of Peace warns Sony to pull their upcoming film "The Interview" - or else.

A new message from a group calling itself GOP (Guardians of Peace) has been posted on GitHub, offering a fresh batch of sensitive corporate data, including a link connected to the names of Sony co-chairman Amy Pascal and Sony Pictures Television President Stephen Mosko.

The message threatens further consequences if the studio continues with its release of “the movie of terrorism.” GOP did not specifically identify the movie, but authorities have been investigating whether the hacker attack is referring to The Interview, an upcoming comedy starring Seth Rogen and James Franco, who play entertainment journalists who get recruited by the CIA to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

So far, it’s the most explicit reference to the film that the attackers have made, although many had previously linked the attacks to North Korean retaliation for the film’s release, because the North Korean government has issued threats about the movie before. The North Korean government has denied involvement in the hacker attack.

In case you were wondering, here is the complete message below:

We have already given our clear demand to the management team of SONY, however, they have refused to accept. It seems that you think everything will be well, if you find out the attacker, while no reacting to our demand. We are sending you our warning again. Do carry out our demand if you want to escape us. And, Stop immediately showing the movie of terrorism which can break the regional peace and cause the War! You, SONY & FBI, cannot find us. We are perfect as much. The destiny of SONY is totally up to the wise reaction & measure of SONY.

Last week, Social Security numbers from thousands of Sony employees were leaked online, along with other information including the salaries of Rogen and Franco.

Some people are saying that this is nothing more than a marketing scheme by Sony. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
